  • I have been a client of Foxwood clinic for 6 years with the advice and care at this clinic being exceptional. The results of my treatment are always very good, resulting in a fresh and more youthful look. Importantly, Craig provides advice and clarity that help me make decisions on what treatment I wish to have, which I think is key in this industry. He is realistic, client focused, very professional and discreet. I would highly recommend Foxwood clinic, and have had no hesitation in recommending my friends and colleagues for treatments

  • Foxwood clinic was recommended to me through a friend some time ago, I was very nervous as I did not want to have treatments that would make me feel and look "overtreated".  Craig takes the time to work through the treatment I want to have, and I have always felt extremely satisfied with the results.  A very professional service, and one that I would be very comfortable to recommend.

Are these Treatments Safe?

Muscle Relaxing Injections: Some clinics refrain from explaining which commonly used products are approved by the Food and Drug Administration, which is a federal agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. The FDA is responsible for protecting the public health by ensuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, and medical devices. FDA approval of muscle relaxing injections and dermal fillers is arguably the tightest regulation in the world, designed to protect people from unscrupulous manufacturers and practitioners. We of course abide by EU regulation and we choose only to use FDA approved muscle relaxing injections. There are three botulinum toxin (type A) products which are currently approved for aesthetic use in most Western markets: onabotulinumtoxinA, these brands are Botox®/Vistabel® and Allergan Inc. We have our favourite brand, however we are able to use the brand you most prefer, once discussed in consultation. We refer to the above as ‘muscle relaxing injections’.

In 2002, the FDA-approved botulinum toxin (type A) to be used cosmetically to minimise facial wrinkles, primarily the vertical lines between the eyebrows, then its use to minimise crow’s feet was approved and most recently in 2017 muscle relaxing injections were approved for the treatment of moderate to severe forehead lines. In fact prior to 2002, botulinum toxin (type A) had been used “off-label” for cosmetic purposes.

Dermal Fillers: Remember to work with an experienced and qualified practitioner and to ask what you can expect. In the United Kingdom any person can inject another person with dermal filler, meaning any beautician or even plumber can obtain dermal filler and inject a person, this can be done without any training at all.  The most common side effects of the use of approved dermal fillers include, bruising, redness, swelling, pain and itching; with most side effects occurring shortly after injection and going away within two weeks. This list of side effects is of course not the only side effects and is built up from experience of the use of FDA approved dermal fillers. Dermal fillers can be obtained on the internet without certainty/ ease of traceability of the origin or contents of the products and the injecting of such non-approved fillers by inexperienced non-medical practitioners can give rise to unsightly and dangerous outcomes including burning, infection, scaring and even blindness.

Many people in the UK allow their faces to be injected with substances potentially obtained from the internet (some counterfeit of approved fillers) by someone with no medical training or even understanding of what they are doing; to do so ignores the ethical questions that go unanswered in such circumstances like (i) on what animals and under what conditions have these products been tested (including whether there has been any testing at all), (ii) what the long term side effects are which may result from ingredients in the dermal filler which the practitioner and the patient are unaware of, (iii) does the practitioner have a record of the treatment for you to request a copy of (including whether your personal data safe in their hands) and (iv) whether a non medical practitioner can be said to necessarily have the best interests of the patient at heart when they have no or minimal training and do not have medical level understanding of biology. Do so at your peril.

If your medically trained health care provider confirms that dermal fillers are an option for you, you must remember that that all products have benefits and risks and the quality and duration of the results will depend on experience, skill and the quality of the dermal fillers. We only use FDA approved dermal fillers.

How do approved muscle relaxing injections and dermal fillers work?

Muscle Relaxing Injections: After the injection moves from the dermis (skin) and into the desired muscle, the synapsis of the nerves are blocked by the muscle relaxing injections. So even though your brain may fire a signal for your body to move a particular muscle, muscle relaxing injections effectively block that firing and temporarily keep the muscle from moving. As the injected muscle can no longer contract, the wrinkles in the skin relax and soften. Muscle relaxing injections can also help future wrinkles from forming, by making a muscle inactive before it pulls the skin, it’ll prevent any lines from forming or getting worse.

Dermal Fillers: People across the country are seeking treatments to put volume into their lips and cheeks.   They are generally injected into the skin with a needle and are regulated by the FDA as medical devices.

Temporary fillers include the following materials:

  • Collagen injections, made of highly purified collagen
  • Hyaluronic acid gel, a protective lubricating gel, produced naturally by the body
  • Calcium hydroxylapatite, a mineral and a major component of bone
  • Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biodegradable, biocompatible, synthetic material

These products are used for correcting soft tissue imperfections in the face, such as moderate to severe facial wrinkles and skin folds, lip and cheek augmentation, and to restore or correct the signs of facial fat loss. An FDA approved dermal filler is also used to fill in the back of the hand.

Most FDA-approved fillers are temporary and achieve a smoothing or “filling” effect, which lasts for about six months or longer in most people.

These injectable dermal fillers are temporary because the body eventually absorbs them. Dermal fillers are not FDA-approved for large-scale body contouring. Be aware of non approved dermal fillers- see “Are these Treatments safe?” tab.

Who is our head clinician?
10918426 – beautiful young woman botox injection eye wrinkles

Our head clinician has served in the NHS for many years, most recently as a Divisional Director in a London Trust. Craig was the first Modern Matron for A&E and the acute admissions unit (AAU) at PFI Hospital UCL and he practiced and qualified in Western Australia.

Craig trained Doctors, Nurses and Dentists to practice at expert level aesthetic medicine for many years before going on to set up Foxwoodclinic.

Craig is very approachable and this character follows through to Foxwoodclinic’s ethos of offering a very friendly and discreet service and aim to always keep our loyal clients happy.

From years of experience and teaching Craig has developed an innate ability to help re-balance facial symmetry, Craig is trained in specialist skin care products to improve skin tone and radiance of the skin. This is important to remember, as facial lines and wrinkles are strongly influenced by individual differences in anatomy and muscle activity and no single injection protocol/ regime will suit all patients. There is however plenty of interest in finding a regime so that all practitioners can quickly and easily produce satisfactory results. Until then, we suggests its better to stick with practitioners like Craig who have innate skill and experience in facial aesthetics and who keep up regular training in the industry.

At Foxwoodclinic we practice subtle changes and prefer to undertake an entire anti-ageing programme that is never obvious or at any point in time unnecessary. Whilst we have prestigious and well healed clients, we are not about being brash, but rather discrete.
